Recent photos of birds taken at Dean Park in Park Rapids. Photos taken with Canon 1D MK III or 5D MK III with 500mm f4 telephoto with or without 1.4 telextender and with or without Better Beamer. The beamer is a fresnel lens used on lenses over 300mm. It can provide over 2 additional f stops of light. The beamer attaches to the electronic strobe and allowing you to project the strobe flash. The advantage to the beamer, it will illuminate dark subjects during daylight, but like other strobes, you can get the dreaded red eye even in birds. The first two images show the Better Beamer mounted on the Camera. There is one major problem when photographing birds in MN this time of the year. The wind chill it has been close to 50 degrees below zero.
