Johnston Atoll is approximately 800 miles SW of Honolulu. The atoll is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The main island in the atoll is Johnston Island. The island is approximately two miles long and up to 1/2 miles wide. The atoll is home to 33 species of coral, over 300 species of fish and 20 species of native and migratory birds. I worked and lived on the atoll for 14 years before retiring. Aerial photos of the atoll can be seen in this section.
