In September I traveled to England to metal detect for Roman, Celtic and Saxon coins and artifacts. I was part of a group consisting of people from MN/ND a couple from NM and one person from OH. All members of the group were well experienced metal detectorists and a number of them had been to England several times in the past to detect. Once in London we took a shuttle to our pickup point. Shortly after arriving Steve the owner of Norfolk Metal Detecting Tours arrived in a large van with plenty of room for our luggage and the group. The trip got off to an interesting start as after we had loaded the van I mentioned, but apparently not loud enough that I was going in to use the facilities. When I came back out the van was no where in sight. Luckily someone on the bus realized one of the party was missing and it was not long before they were back gathering me up. We then settled in to our approximate 2 hour drive north to where we would be staying and detecting. We arrived in Attleborough and our home for the next couple weeks, The Breckland Lodge. The Lodge has great rooms, a good restaurant and a nice pub. Our schedule for the next 12 days would be, we would eat breakfast, Steve would pick us up at 08 in the morning. On the way to the detecting fields we would stop at a grocery store and pick up lunch and snacks. We then headed for the fields where we would remain the entire day, departing the fields at 5:30 in the evening. Steve had a great system set up. Once we arrived at a detecting site, he would get our equipment out and we would be off detecting. Steve would set up tables and chairs and set out the coolers with our lunches. There was always hot coffee or tea and water. Steve has thousands of acres contracted with the farmers in the area so we had the ability to move to different sites if necessary. The farmers deep plow in England so artifacts are coming to the surface continually. In fact, at times you can see coins and artifacts laying on the surface of the soil. Everyone in the group had quality detectors that were capable of detecting through many inches of soil to find coins etc. One of the best parts of the tour was Steve has a good grasp on items you bring out of the ground. He can usually tell you the exactly what you had found, and the dates associated with your find. Prior to coming to England, the oldest coin I had ever found was an 1840 Seated Liberty Quarter, the first day detecting we were all finding coins and artifacts not only several hundred years old but in some cases a couple thousand years old. On many days Steves partner and co owner of the company Hayley would join us.
We had a great group of people, Steve and Hayley did everything to make our tour enjoyable. The weather cooperated for the most part, although we did get some rain it was not enough to stop the detecting. I am enclosing just a small portion of the coins and artifacts a few of us found. If you enjoy world class detecting, England is one of the top countries to visit. I look forward to going back in the next few months.

I am enclosing a link to Steve's website where you can see hundreds of finds groups have located in the past.
