Originally our group of 11 was scheduled to sail on the boat Tucano, but one week prior to the trip, Manaus was hit by a bad storm and several boats were damaged which included our boat. Luckily the tour company Ecotour Expeditions was able to locate a similar boat. The Dorihna was built in 2005 and has room for 24 passengers. Since there were only 11 participants on this trip, we had plenty of room. The double rooms are air-conditioned with private showers and toilet. The cooks did a great job of preparing delicious meals and snacks. The boat captain and crew and guides went out of their way to insure we were well taken care of. Our group included couples from Sweden, Australia and Wisconsin, two guys from Austria, a father (Texas) and daughter (CA) and myself. The boat towed two long motorized canoes that were used for trips into the backwater, villages and lakes. Each day, with two guides, several trips were made to include a walk into the jungle and at night canoe trips were made to look for nocturnal animals/snakes etc. Even with all the great food on the Dorinha, our friends from Australia brought along some Vegemite for us to sample ( enough said ).
