Spent a number of days in Dean Park near town photographing mostly swans but eagles, mink, geese, muskrats also showed up in the viewfinder. The temps were minus 20-30 degrees with the wind chill close to minus 50 some days. When it gets that cold much of the river freezes over expect where there has faster moving water and there is alot of swan movement. The weather has changed now its 32 degrees outside so there is a 50 degree or so change...the ice on the sides of the river and previously frozen areas are now open and the swans have moved further down the river out of reach of the lens. There are a few birds that stay near where I was photographing since people will stop and throw corn etc to the birds So with that food and the grasses in the river the birds seem quite content. Usually there will be alot of flight activity in the mornings and evenings as birds leave the river and go to the open fields and forage for corn, grain etc. but this year I only saw a few birds leaving the area and since they take off into the wind...I did not get many good flight shots. One of the images shows a young swan on its side washing it feathers, I dont remember seeing this in the past....Gen X swan maybe.
I used the Canon 5D Mk IV with a Canon 500mm f4L telephoto, and for a couple shots the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L lens. Also a couple wide angle images were taken with the Iphone 12Pro.
